Acrylic and beads on canvas, 3x4ft. Exploring privilege from a place of neutrality. As someone who is both privileged and marginalized. I am constantly exposed to material on social media that explores my marginalization. But it is my responsibility to seek out information about my privileges. The painting shows how uncomfortable it can be to confront your privilege. (I laugh when I'm uncomfortable by the way). While making this painting, I had several conversations with people in my community about the ways I am privileged. As I continue to have these judgment-free conversations, I become more mindful, more compassionate, more responsible and more harmonious in the ways that I engage with my community.
